Seafood Cornwall recently took part in the
National Food & Drink Expo at the NEC in
Birmingham (19-22 March) and although
not well known as a fish show we received
a steady stream of trade enquiries. |

Following the success of the ‘line-caught’ Bass
tags and website (www.linecaught.org.uk) introduced
last year, Seafood Cornwall is working
with the SWHFA to bring out ‘line-caught’ Pollack
tags in May. Each tag will be individually
numbered giving complete ‘hook to plate’ traceability.

As many of you be aware the processing sector
of the industry has been very much on the back
foot since the Greenpeace report last November
into the UK supermarkets fish sourcing policies
and their subsequent actions (i.e. jumping up
and down on the roof of Asda and more recently
Morrisons) has caused tremors felt back through
the supply chain.

As part of its mission to buy and retain fish quota in Cornwall, the Duchy Fish Quota Company is organising a County-wide ‘Test the Fisherman’ quiz to test the fishing knowledge of local fisherman and see who is the overall Cornish Fishing Mastermind.

Seafood Cornwall has 4 temperature loggers which are available to skippers who are concerned that their fishrooms maybe too warm or too cold. The loggers can record temperatures every 30-minutes for over 7-days and once back ashore we can produce a graph of fishroom temperatures over the course of a trip. Seafood Cornwall are now drafting best practice quality guidelines for under 10m boats. Once these have been drafted and tested we will begin quality inspections of fish from under 10m boats with the aim of extending the Vessel Quality Award pro-gramme to vessel’s Under 10m.
