Free help offer after 90% of firms say they'll "Buy Cornish" Print E-mail

Cornwall Enterprise is searching for 120 companies to benefit from free local trading support, after a survey revealed that improving business between Cornish firms could boost the county's economy by up to a staggering £1 billion per year.

Over three hundred businesses with a base in Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly completed the questionnaire, the start of the six month "Buy Cornish" project run by the Enterprise Edge service and the first serious research into how much money local firms spend in their own area.

G'ment funding for workforce skills Print E-mail

The Skills Pledge is a voluntary, public commitment by the leadership of a company or organisation to support all its employees to develop their basic skills, including literacy and numeracy, and work towards relevant, valuable qualifications to at least Level 2 (equivalent to 5 good GCSEs). The purpose is to ensure that all staff are skilled, competent and able to make a full contribution to the success of the company/organisation.

For employees who do not already have a full Level 2 qualification, the Government will provide funding to help them gain basic literacy and numeracy skills as well as their first full Level 2 qualification.

Local Food - A new £50 million grant scheme Print E-mail

On 11th September 2007, the BIG Lottery Fund, the largest of the National Lottery good cause distributors, announced the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts as an Award Partner under its Changing Spaces programme. RSWT will manage Local Food, a new £50 million grant scheme.

Launched in January 2006 the Seafood Cornwall New Product Development (NPD) scheme gives grants of upto £3000 to help catchers, processors / merchants in Cornwall research, develop and test new product ideas.

So far 4 companies have been awarded grants – these are awarded on a first come first served basis so if you have any ideas please contact Nathan at on 01736 874304 before its too late!
