The Short Range Certificate (SRC) is the radio operator qualification which authorises the holder to operate a VHF Radiotelephone fitted with Digital Selective Calling (DSC) on board any British vessel which is voluntarily fitted with radio equipment.

Course Content
This course covers both the training and examination requirements for the VHF Short Range Certificate and covers the use of a VHF Radio equipped with Digital Selective Calling (DSC). This replaces the previous VHF Radio Operators Certificate and is part of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). All new VHF Radio users need to obtain this certificate to operate the their radios safely and legally. Previous certificate holders need to upgrade to the new Short Range Certificate.

*A fee is payable for issue of the certificate. The cost of this certificate is currently £22, imposed by the RYA. (This is not included in the Course fee.) A passport style photograph will be required for the issue of the certificate.
