Introduction
Although we are based in Newlyn, wherever you work in Cornwall we are here to help. We aim to provide advice, guidance and help on a wide range of Fish Industry related issues and in particular funding or training - so please ask - any enquiry is treated in confidence and we will try and help.
We have 4 computers on-site which are connected to the internet and are FREE for you to use for business research or training. If you have not used one before don’t worry as someone will be on hand to get you started.
The Cornwall Fisheries Resource Centre is a project which had been led by the Objective One Fisheries Taskforce and has been developed and funded by CFPO, Penwith DC, Barclays Bank, Newlyn Pier and Harbour Commissioners, NFIF and Objective One (FIFG) funding. The Centre is at 78b The Strand, Newlyn but serves the whole of Cornwall.
Aims of the Resource Centre
The aims of the Resource Centre are:
- To provide a ‘one-stop-shop’ for fishermen, merchants, harbour authorities, marine engineers and other related trades for information or advice on any fish industry related topic.
- To meet this need the Centre will have a small library and also computers with broadband internet access on-site which will be freely available for industry use.
- To work with local training providers and Seafish to organise and develop training courses required by any sector of the Cornish Industry. This will range from informal IT training using the computers on-site to skippers tickets or management courses.
- To work with industry groups to develop projects, particularly those which relate to projects which offer collective benefits to the industry such as research.
- To be a base for Seafood Cornwall
