MASSIVE protests in France against high fuel prices blocked deliveries of Norwegian salmon this week.

Fishermen are furious over their higher fuel costs, and don't want seafood to reach the market, reports Aftenposten.

Many fishing boats haven't left port for weeks, while their owners protest high prices for their diesel fuel. They're demanding economic relief from the authorities to offset their higher costs.

In the meantime, they're demanding solidarity from seafood importers.

Newspaper Dagens Næringsliv reported yesterday that angry fishermen succeeded in halting transport of 30 tons of Norwegian salmon.

They claimed they stopped trucks carrying the salmon at a French roundabout at Boulogne-sur-Mer in Normandy. They also blocked several roads into town, forcing truck drivers to turn around with their cargo.

Johan Kvalheim of the Norwegian export council said the blockades only caused delays, while protesters claimed two trucks headed back to the Netherlands, where the seafood had first arrived.
